Design Tools SharePoint Site
Work conducted for Ford Motor Company as part of the D-Ford Design Prototype team. More information about this project and the development process can be shared verbally.
Introduction & Objective
My role: Understand users' need
With so many different design tools on the market today, which is the best to use for each situation? Do D-Ford Designers have access to those tools? And where can designers find a quick, easy to understand tutorials and tips for using that tool? These are some of the essential questions this project aimed to answer.
Based on D-Ford employee's feedback, a SharePoint site was created as a informational resource for internal company use to enhance productivity and work satisfaction.
Research
My role: Research Co-Lead
Research was conducted on design and collaboration tools as well as on the Ford employees that are or could be utilizing these tools in their daily work.
User interviews allowed me to understand what tools D-Ford designers use more frequently, any pain points, and what their daily work consisted of to see if there were tools that could make their work not only more efficient, but more enjoyable.
A deep dive into the software tools themselves was also conducted. Discovering which of the tools Ford employees had security clearance to use, and becoming an expect at the functionality of these tools well enough to teach others.
Ideation & Concept Design
My role: Co-creator in ideation/concept design
An initial website flow and information architecture was sketched out. A blueprint for what information to include about each of the software tools pages was also designed and discussed.
The work quickly moved to the SharePoint site where the ideas were created and duplicated easily. Usability testing and D-Ford employee feedback was conducted and used throughout the build process.
Prototypes & Evaluation
My role: Co-creator of prototypes and evaluation
To evaluate the SharePoint site created, we collected qualitative and quantitative data through usability testing interviews and a survey. The findings were then used to refine the design further. This SharePoint site was then handed over to another team to maintain the site.
Impact & Reflection
This SharePoint site was launched and handed over to another team to maintain the site. This SharePoint site is still an active resource for D-Ford designers and other Ford Motor Company employees and is commonly featured as part of the D-Ford onboarding resources to reference throughout people's careers at Ford.
This project allowed me to become more tech savvy. Learning tips and tricks on different collaboration and project software enabled me to work more efficiently and become a greater asset to the team.
